I will be taking my wife to Guadalajara in a couple of weeks for a very short hosipital visit recommended by her Cardioligist. We spent a lot of time in his office at Cornerstone Hospital in Puerto Vallarta this past week, however he wants to do a cat scan and informs us that it will cost less if performed in Guadalajara. There is a possibility that he will want to add a "stent" if the scan shows its needed.

We need to find a Hotel that is nice but not too costly. I'm not sure what hospital he would send us to, but we could use a taxi for that.

Does anyone know of a good hotel, with prices that are reasonable.

Not sure if you have already found a place, but my friend George has a great B&B in Colonia Americana in central Guadalajara. It's called Casa Venezuela, and it is BEAUTIFUL! Contact him for rate info. He is a fantastic host, and will help you with whatever you need. (We stayed with him a couple of years ago when we were scoping out Guad, and ended up buying a house close by. I still love hanging out at his house, and we've become close friends.)

That's good. He quotes a price in US$ on his website, which always raises a red flag for me.
I'll check back on his website later, as the place really looks lovely, but over 2,100 pesos per night (at the current exchange rate) for a room - wow.

Thanks for all the information I have received on places to stay. Each place I have been told about looks Great. We have two more weeks while they complete tests up here. All the help is greatly appreciated. Its going to be hard to pick which one. (cost will be the big factor, The First bit of change going to the doctor and hospital, whats left will help us make the choice)

Hello I understand he is giving half off discounts and this can be paid in pesos and still includes breakfast

We had a similar situation and they gave us a half off discount and still included breakfast.

Even at half price, the B&B discussed is not in the budget category. I would suggest the San Francisco Plaza Hotel. A double probably won't be more than $500 pesos and it includes a very good breakfast of your choice in their restaurant. It is a really nice place, the staff is great, I probably won't ever stay anywhere else when I go to Guad. I found it on Mexconnect! Bravo to this forum! Dee

After reading all the requests for a nice inexpensive hotel the word budget is not mentioned, people who usually opt for a B&B experience usually like the fact that maybe the accomodations are better than budget given the website prices and fotos it is clearly evident that this B&B does not claim to be budget but if the person looking to stay here wants a luxurty place ie beds linen etc... good cooked breakfast for a modest 800pesos during the global crisis did I mention a safe area well anyone who wants to stay in a budget hotel in centro Guadalajara as I have my self before you will not receive any of the above mentioned amenities yet alone feel safe after dark.

Oh, sorry, jgz. I guess we all have our own idea of what "inexpensive" means, and to me that means budget. But, as a single older person, "budget" is a very nice place for less than $50 US a day. To a young backpacker, it probably means less than $20 a day. To someone who is used to spending $150 a day, the B&B you recommend is a very good deal! I wish I could afford to stay there. The OP is not going to Guad for a vacation, and wants an inexpensive place to stay while they do the medical tests. I thought my suggestion of the SF Plaza fit in his plans. If I knew a good place less expensive, I would have mentioned it. (Oh! Bill and his wife probably did this trip weeks ago. But, maybe others will chime in on what we call "budget" and where we stay.) I am 57 and as far as I am concerned 'budget' and 'inexpensive are pretty much synonymous. I would say it's got to be under twenty dollars to fit the category. Maybe eighteen. Eighteen to twenty-five is 'mid-range' for me. More than twenty-five dollars, 'not gonna happen.'

Yeah, in this century. My last trip to Mexico (Yucatan) was January. I moved around a little, stayed in four different places, ranged from fifteen to nineteen dollars. Private bath, hot water, toilet seat, the works!

Guadalajara-specific answer: Hotel Latino, 74 Prisciliano Sanchez. Double was 200 pesos two years ago when exchange rate was about 11-to-1.

Just about any "motel de paso" would fit your requirements. Guadalajara is loaded with them and they are generally clean ... with interesting alternative tv programming and mirrors on the ceiling. They even come with a garage.

Maybe you're right, but Hotel Latino doesn't fit that description. It's about 3 blocks from the big theater in Plaza Tapatio. No parking, no mirrors, no porn. Clients seemed mostly business travelers.
