Dish Network Reminder

Dish Network estimates that they should be done with the access card swap in 3-4 months. At that time, they will switch to their Nagra-3 encryption scheme. You will then need to have installed the new purple card in most receivers to continue getting your programming. New receivers have a built in chip that does the same thing. If you have not received the new card, don't worry. Unless you are getting a "nag" screen telling you that programming loss is imminent, you are ok. However, you need to make sure that the new card will be sent to you before your cut off date. It usually is 2 weeks from the time the "nag" screen first appears till your receiver is no longer able to decrypt the signal. Of course, this is only for Dish Network receivers. FTA receivers can't use the new Dish cards to continue reception.

Just released info. from Dish Network that I unabashedly stole from http://www.satelliteguys.us/...ersion-schedule.html.

"Programming services that are supported on the Aladin (old) Smart Cards will be taken down based on the staggered schedule below. The dates in parentheses are when reminder pop-up messages will begin appearing on an affected customer’s TV screen.

• 4/1/09 – Adult programming (customer pop-up reminder messages began 3/18).

• 4/8/09 – HD programming, Starz, and Encore (customer pop-up reminder messages begin 3/25).

• 4/15/09 – Latino programming, Showtime, HBO, and Cinemax (customer pop-up messages for Latino begin 3/25 and for Showtime, HBO, and Cinemax begin 4/1).

• 4/22/09 – Classic Gold 250 (customer pop-up reminder messages begin 4/8).

• 4/29/09 – Classic Silver 200 (customer pop-up reminder messages begin 4/15).

• 5/27/09 – Last round of on-screen messaging begins on 5/6 for any remaining services. All remaining services (including local network programming) will be shut off to Aladin Smart Cards by 5/27."

Well Tim. I was thinking my one year old or so 211 HD receiver, might not need a new card. I was wrong. I have the HD package and the first time I turned on the unit after 3/25, the message popped up reference the card and I have until the 8th. Well the "smart card" hasn't shown up in the states yet and I guess if it shows up in time I can have it UPS'd to me down here

"4/8/09 – HD programming, Starz, and Encore (customer pop-up reminder messages begin 3/25)."

I just completed my move to the other house and brought 4 footer for 119 W, and the 2 meter for 110 W and these two dishes are connected to my 3 way switch. I already had a 2.4 meter that had been pointing at 107.3 that I will redirect to 129 W once the new LNB shows up next week.

I'm using the much smaller 36.5 by 26 inch elliptical dish to point toward the two *Choice satellites (107.3 W & 111.1 W)

Thanks as always for the great information

I had a bunch of problems getting my card. It took three calls. The first cards disappeared into postal never-never land. The first two times I called, the operators were a real pain to deal with. The third time, she was friendly and helpful, and her try worked.

Question for the DISH expert Dr. Taltman711.

Hey if I don't have DISH for a few days no big deal. I also have Star Choice. Per the message, I will be loosing my picture on April 8th. What happens if I get my card on the 10th or 15th. Shouldn't I be able to put it in then and get my programming back, or do I have to make the change on or before the 8th.

Thanks in advance for your great Tech help.

Pete

My receivers were out for more than 2 weeks waiting for my son to bring the purple cards down when he visited us this month. I popped the cards in and the receivers came up within a couple of minutes. No calls needed.

Rolly,

When you called to get your new card, what address were you using? Your service address, your billing address, some other address?

I am still in that nervous, limbo state/condition over my new Dish service, if I have understood correctly, that I should not have this service where I am.

I got online to my Dish account and put in a new billing address, which is my mail service address in Nogales. But I have not changed my service address because I am afraid of creating suspicion.

I don't think this "purple card" thing is an issue for me. My service is very new and I peeked in at the card and the end that I can see is black and purple, so I am assuming I have the latest and greatest. As soon as I turn off the TV I will pull the card out and check it. But, there may be other issues, such as this one, where I am going to need to receive something from Dish via US Mail, and I am wondering when I can safely change my service address in my Dish account and not create a problem for myself.

Any ideas?

I went on line and changed our mailing address with no problems - so I think you will be fine.

My old card was 'distinctly yellow', so I suspect that you have the new one already (which does have a black border on the bottom that one can see when inserted, but is otherwise purple).

You cannot change your service address, but you can change your billing address online. It's the billing address that is used to mail things to you.

You can only change your service address by calling Dish. There is really no reason nor advantage to doing so. The only reason I know of that would be a good reason would be if you wanted to "timeshift" your programs. If you move to the west coast, your programs are on 2 hours earlier. You give Dish more credit than they deserve. If you would want to change service address, just call and do it. The CSR's don't care. It happens all of the time. As long as you don't change it to Mexico, no issues.
Changing your billing address is all that you need to do if you need the new purple card. Dish statements and mailers will go to this address.

A general answer to some pm's I have gotten:
The schedule above is not the schedule for any particular card expiring, but is the schedule for when particular programming is completely cut off without the new card. Re-hitting your box after these dates will not help. The Nagra2 stream will be cut off, and only the Nagra3 stream will be available. Only the purple cards can decrypt Nagra3. If you haven't gotten your new card yet, I would be proactive and find out if your receiver needs the new card, and if so, has it been mailed. The end of May is not the time to follow up. You will be without all programming until you insert the purple card. Dish can't re-hit your box to give you additional time. The current yellw cards will be dead.
