I live in Hermosillo and I know of this hospital. It is located very centrally and looks really nice. There is a clinic nearby that I think is associated with the hospital where I get my blood work done...tests on the blood and urine, etc. for my annual physical. If the hospital is anything like that clinic, it must be a very top-notch place.

I have heard that you can just waltz into the hospital and be seen by an English-speaking, American trained doctor, but you are going to pay close to US office visit prices. I have no personal experience doing that, but I might do it, because I am getting no where fast with my new Mexican doctor who puts more effort into trying to explain things to me in English (and I still never understand much of what he says) and seems completely oblivious that I am speaking to him in Spanish.

Fortunately most of my tests have come back normal but I am being re-tested for blood sugar in a few days. If it shows that I am borderline diabetic, or worse, I will have to find a doctor I can communicate with, in English or Spanish, and this hospital may be the answer for me.

Thanks for your post.

I think, if you check, that CIMA offers an insurance policy through the hospital - it might work for you as you live in Hermosillo full time. People in San Carlos who have used it are more than happy with the hospital.

Thank you for that tip. I will check it out. I am currently buying a GNP Gastos Medicos (Catastrophic) policy with some significant exclusions and it would not hurt to do some comparing.

I was just over in that area this morning, at the clinic where they draw and test blood, and I see there is another large (five or six stories) medical building to the immediate west of the hospital. I wonder if those are the medical (consultorio) offices?

We live in Kino and have used Cima many times. I had an operation there about 10 years ago. The Azstar article contains many errors. Very few of the Drs. are US trained. There are some great Drs. but they were educated in Mexico. Many do belong to USA organizations and attend conferences in the USA. Some do speak English but the majority do not. A Dr. visit is around $40 and a specialist is $50. Those are dollars not pesos. I highly recommend this facility. I did not know about there in house insurance and would sure be interested.
