Favorite beach town north of Manzanillo?

Can't Post | Private Reply
My other half is heading to the US for about 10 days beginning next week and I'm thinking of tossing the dog into the car and going to the beach. (We live near Lake Chapala.) But other than taking a short look at Barra de Navidad on a roadtrip last year, I don't really know the towns/pueblos/beaches.

Just looking for a low-key place with a nice beach and a few palapa restaurants, etc. Would need to rent a casita or bungalow that would accept a well-behaved old dog.

Thoughts? Is La Manzanilla nice, and are there short term rentals there? Somewhere else better? Thanks.

La Manzanilla or Melaque might suit your bill.

And there are short term rentals in both places.
More suggestions might be forecoming if people know if you like to 'be' in the ocean. Or just look at it:)

Then La Manzanilla and Melaque might be your best bets as both places have hotels or bungalows(suites with kitchens) on or close to sandy beaches, suitable for swimming. La Manzanilla is the smaller of the two towns but both have their attractions.

Barra de Navidad hasn't really got in my opinion, much of a swimming beach. Wave action too strong.

And some other smaller beach towns in the area are quite quiet without much choice of accomodations or restaurants open into the evening.

I also like to walk a lot and enjoy places where the beach is long and easy to walk. And where there are trails into the hills to hike for spectacular views.
And observe the natural flora and fauna. Farm animals too.

Thanks so much. If anyone has any tips on short-term rentals, I'd love to hear about it. If it was just me, I wouldn't bother researching beforehand, but the doggus always changes everything....

Melaque has many more beach motel options than either Barra or La Manzanilla .... and in my mind the best beach. Just avoid Semana Santa - April 7th thru 12th and the following week. The west end of Melaque (may seem north) has the best swimming beach and a number of nice places with pools. Pets, I have no idea

Thanks for the info on Melaque, as well as the VRBO link and the tomzap site. I have used VRBO many times, and had been to tomzap but sort of forgot about it.
