DIF Senior Discount Card.

I went to the bus station today and was told if I had a Senior Discount Card issued by DIF, I would receive a 50% discount. Does anyone know the requirements to get one?

It's callen an "INAPAM" card. Requirements may vary by state. Best to pay a visit to your local DIF office. I needed 3 photos, copies of my passport (photo page), birth certificate and FM3, comprobante de domicilio (electric or water bill).

Do a search on INAPAM, you'll turn up lots of posts discussing it.

Wow, it's nice of them to ask if you had the card. When we first bought bus tickets with our newly acquired INAPAM cards, we got funny looks from the clerk. But now they are used to us and there's no problem.

The card ("credencial") will also get you discounts at some hotels, restaurants, medical labs, museums, archaeological sites, parks, etc, although those discounts tend to be more modest than the generous bus discounts.

Where are you located?

We are in Puerto
Vallarta. I just read this is a National card not by
state. We requested the discount and they (ETN) would nor give us one without the card. We have received the discount before with out a card. We're both over 65.

Yup, The "INA" in INAPAM is "Instituto Nacional" just like the just like the "IN" in INM. Ever read of differences in interpretation and application of the immigration laws between different offices down here? Your local DIF requirements may be the same as mine, the ones I listed. Then again, they may not be. iirc there are posts here from people who's local DIF office wouldn't issue them to FM3 holders.

Unless someone from PV posts with their experience, you won't know until you drop down to your local DIF and ask them.

I live in Jalisco state and applied at our local DIF office for my cards. I needed to provide the same info that Ed had to provide. It took about 1 hr, but I walked away with my DIF card and INPAN card.

The DIF card and the INAPAM card are not the same, although the discounts offered do overlap in part.

The DIF card is a state card; INAPAM is a national card. Generally speaking, the INAPAM card is not available through DIF, unless the state and national organization offices are housed in the same spot.

Requirements for applying for either card will vary from office to office. Some offices require that applicants hold an FM-2; other offices require an FM-3. Because the various offices are to some degree autonomous, it's always best to check at the location where you want to apply.

We're a podunk town and I doubt we have any state or national offices here, especially not in our little DIF office. That's where I got my INAPAM card. The girl who did the paperwork and issued the card had a DIF shirt on.

So maybe it's generally speaking where you live.

I know several people who have gotten their INAPAM cards in Valle de Banderas, Nayarit at DIF. They were not offered nor given any other card. I don't know anyone who has a Nayarit state card, so maybe not every state has one?

What is the age for being considered a "senior" to get this card? 60? 65?
thanks

DIF is a state agency with local offices. Rules and their applications are different everywhere. In Jalisco, you can get a DIF card in Chapala but not in Ajijic. The INAPAM card comes from the Palacio Federal in Guadalajara. In Morelia, the INAPAM card comes from the INAPAM office and I've never heard of a Michoacán DIF card, although those cards may exist.

YMMV.

We live in Alamos, Sonora. We applied for and received our INAPAM cards from DIF. They required the same documentation as mentioned by other posters. Before our current presidenta (under whose administration we received our cards) the then presidente owned the local bus company. As is the usual custom in Mexico his spouse ran the DIF offices. We asked about getting a INAPAM card and we were told that Hermosillo (our capital city) would not permit Norte Americanos to be issued a INAPAM card. As soon as he was out of office and the new presidenta was sworn we learned we could apply and be granted the referenced card. The fare from Alamos to Tucson is normally $49.00 USD. Hubby were to Tucson recently for $26.00 USD. Quite a savings.

We went to the Valle de Banderas DIF office last week and requested our Senior Cards. The gal issued myself and my husband a card. After reading the posts regarding whether there are two different cards, is the Senior Discount Card issued by the DIF office the same thing as the INAPAM card I decided to take a close look at our cards.

Our cards actually say INAPAM in the upper right corner, there is no mention of DIF or Senior anywhere on the cards. Also, there is no expiration date on our cards.

However, now I have a question. Has anyone looked closely at their cards? Both, my husband and my cards reference each other on the backside. Did they make a mistake, did she mix up the information and cross type the information or is our spouse supposed to be on the back side of our cards?

Do we need to go back to the DIF office and have them correct our cards??

They asked us, at INAPAM Morelia, to put the phone number of someone who could be called in case of emergency. Perhaps that's what the cross-referenced names are for on yours.
I certainly wouldn't worry about it.

In some places "personas de la tercer edad"--seniors with INAPAM cards as proof--use handicapped parking spots.

No, your cards aren't cross-referenced. That's the spot that follows "En caso de accidente avisar a:" In other words, it's the contact person to be contacted in case of an accident (emergency).

What information/copies did you have to take to them in Valle de Banderas? It's a nice drive out there, isn't it?
