Hey, we can get Netflix here! We even figured out
how to watch the "instant" Netfllix selections on our
television.

There IS a solution!

So, TELL!
Here in Ajijic, we can get it mailed to one of the maildrops, but the postage sending it back is way high.

I heard some months ago that there would be a way to get it to your television, but not just yet. You have news?

Go to Netflix.com and learn. Or see http://www.roku.com/...3J5JcCFQJvswod1HZYDg

About $99 or a little less on eBay.

Actually, we did it without that.

But first you have to get an IP within the U.S.
to be able to watch the Netflix movies online.
They will not give you access with a Mexico IP.

You can accomplish this at hotspot shield. (Google it)

It's a free shareware download. It assigned us an IP in Laredo, TX.

Once you have done that, you can start adding instant
view movies to your lineup.

OK, then the task is to watch the movies on your television,
NOT your computer.

Here's what we did:

1. Our TV has a VGA/PC connection on the back of it.

2. We used a VGA connector between Macbook and television.

3. Ran an audio cable from the speaker outlet of the computer
to the back of the television audio input.

4. When you launch hotspot shield you'll have your U.S. IP address.

5. When you click on "play movie" for the first time on Netflix
it will then prompt you to install their free player.

Once you do all this, you're in business! Instant movies from Netflix.

As for the DVD's, our mail box service in Mexico offers free
shipping back and forth to Laredo, so we'll be getting those
too.

It's all good! Happy viewing.

Tina, do you know if this will work with a Windows XP based PC in addition to the Mac?

As far as I know it should, especially since PC's
are far more prevalent. I'm SO not a techie,
but my husband figured it out for us.

Hope it works out for you. It's a great
solution for Mexico. ;0)

I've rented (but not bought) a couple of movies from iTunes Store. I start the download before I go to bed, making sure my computer is set NOT to sleep during the several hours download. (We are on a slowish Wi-Fi network, out in the countryside.) I imagine that purchase would work about the same.

A few months ago, some departing friends left us their tv. We've little or no interest in tv watching, but I might see if I could connect my MacBook Pro to it to watch movies.

Thanks for the inspiration, Azheat.

The best setup right now, if you can get reliable, medium speed internet is a linux based media server. This used to be somewhat complicated, but now is easy with software or a device called ¨Boxee¨. You can download the software for free and try it out. If you like it the ´boxee´ box by Dlink is widely available. This just hooks up to your TV and includes a unique remote control, all for under $200 U.S. It links wireless to a hard disk you set aside for downloads. It accesses netflix, hulu, etc but I don´t know how to IP shield it yet. Many people are not paying for netflix/hulu, they are paying for a premium filehosting site such as Hot File.com and then picking up titles over on tehparadox.com (yes-spelling correct!), a free site.

file sharing is a good way to get viruses. I would rather go the netflck route.
