similar story in my business which involves glass for architectural and commercial uses. Ten years ago security glass was maybe 3% of my annual sales - mostly institutional (prison, secure areas in police stations, etc). Post 911... that percentage is now in the low 20%, and I expect that to double again in the next five years. I don't do any automotive glass, but I am stunned how many applications are shifting to bullet and blast resistant glazing. Law offices, high end residential, banks, post offices, recently did a Social Security office where all the employees are behind 1-3/8" bullet resistant glass. The Homeland Security Act requires that MOST government buildings have security glazing. Ironically, it is an unfunded mandate, so the building codes require it.......... but there is NO $$$$ to pay for it. Yup the world is a changing..........muy rapido!
