Dee, I've eaten at La Trattoria. It was okay. For Italian food, the ONLY place to go is Ma Come No, on Avenida Las Américas near Angulo. It's one of the very best restaurants in Guadalajara. Don't miss the salad bar--it's outstanding. Another great place for comida is La O, on José Guadalupe Zuno near Avenida Unión. The cuisine is varied and truly excellent. It's fixed-price and not expensive. The restaurant itself is in an old Guadalajara mansion, just lovely. Before your comida, take a short walk to Casa Zuno (a little closer to Av. Unión) and ask for a tour of what is now part of the University of Guadalajara. It's stunning. For a bigger splurge, try Cocina 88 on Avenida Vallarta. It's the parent restaurant to La O. For a regional treat, way off the beaten track (but in a very safe neighborhood), go to Karne Garibaldi at the corner of José Clemente Orozco and Calle Garibaldi. They only serve carne en su jugo and the food is TERRIFIC. Your only choice is small, medium, or large! Thanks for the compliments on this week's blog article. The food fair in Pátzcuaro was great fun. http://www.mexicocooks.typepad.com
