Thanks, Esperanza for the latest post on your blog, about the food fair in Pátzcuaro. Wish I had been there!
On another subject, have you heard about the restaurant La Trattoria in Guadalajara? It has been recommended by 2 people here. May only have time for one or two dinners while in Guad. next week, so want to make worthwhile food choices.

Dee, I've eaten at La Trattoria. It was okay.

For Italian food, the ONLY place to go is Ma Come No, on Avenida Las Américas near Angulo. It's one of the very best restaurants in Guadalajara. Don't miss the salad bar--it's outstanding.

Another great place for comida is La O, on José Guadalupe Zuno near Avenida Unión. The cuisine is varied and truly excellent. It's fixed-price and not expensive. The restaurant itself is in an old Guadalajara mansion, just lovely. Before your comida, take a short walk to Casa Zuno (a little closer to Av. Unión) and ask for a tour of what is now part of the University of Guadalajara. It's stunning.

For a bigger splurge, try Cocina 88 on Avenida Vallarta. It's the parent restaurant to La O.

For a regional treat, way off the beaten track (but in a very safe neighborhood), go to Karne Garibaldi at the corner of José Clemente Orozco and Calle Garibaldi. They only serve carne en su jugo and the food is TERRIFIC. Your only choice is small, medium, or large!

Thanks for the compliments on this week's blog article. The food fair in Pátzcuaro was great fun.

Aaaaah - Karne Garibaldi!!!!! Thanks for introducing us to this wonderful place 4 years ago, Esperanza! We have tried carne en su jugo in many different locations and NONE came close to tasting as good as theirs! A trip to Guadalajara is coming up in about 2 weeks and that is where we will be having comida....

I remember that day so well! All of us waddled out of there, we ate so much.

Another time, Vern snarfed down a medium order and then got a small order for dessert!

Mmmm, carne en su jugo at Karne Garibaldi!
