Hola Dee, When researching 'digs' for my trip last winter to Guadalajara, passed on staying 'centro' although there were several B and B's that piqued interest but did not follow up on prior internet research. Looking for lodging in the 80 dollars or so a night bracket, I ended up at a past favorite, Hotel Isabel near Templo Expiratorio, and walked, several times, centro, about ten blocks. And taken buses or taxis back. Saw restaurant 'O' while meandering the neighbourhood. Although chose a Cuban and an East Indian restaurant, whose names escape me at this moment. Also stayed in centro Tonala, both on arrival and departure from the airport. Somewhat budget. Cheap and cheerful. Safe and centrally located to the Thursday and Sunday tianguis. Interesting both times. But not 'too interesting', if you get my drift:)
