i am looking to plant an apricot tree but all the nurserys have never heard of it. I even asked the Spanish equivelant of Apricot but to no avail.
Does anyone know where i can purchase and Apricot Tree?

I think that the word you used is Spanish Spanish and apricots may be better understood here as Chabacano.
I suspect that here at Lakeside it may not get cold enough for apricots. I note that all the ones that turn up here for sale come from Michoacan and the mountain areas I think, where it is much cooler in the winter than this area - but that might not be accurate. You might call Roberto Delgado, Chapala Tree Service - (376) 762-0602 - and see what advice he can give you. He is able to get all kinds of things that are hard to find at the local viveros.

I see someone later on suggested "chabacano", which is what we call them. I notice even the jam is called by that name.

I live at Lake Chapala. I bought an apricot tree at the nursery in San Juan Cosala-it even came with 2 apricots on it. I've seen them at other nurseries here.

Yes, we have one or two planted, but no fruit from them yet. We did get quite a few apples this year. They aren't very big, but they are very tasty. I don't even know what kind they are except that they are yellow.

I've planted two apple trees-one yellow and on red. That's the only description the nurseries have for them. I wonder what kind they are. My Palestinian neighbours have a yellow one that produces lots of apples. They think that it is a variety that was developed for the Middle East. They say it blossoms at any time of year.

Are you thinking of peaches from Michoacan

Silicon Valley used to be an apricot capital in the '50's and earlier with a very similar climate to Lakeside

No Sparks - the kids sell apricots from Michoacan in the streets here at the Chapala area in early summer. They may have peaches too at the right season.
