Guess it depends on your definition of what would make a good retirement locale? We spent a weekend there last month. It's a very sweet, picturesque town in the mountains. It also seemed quite lively for a town as small as it is. Very prosperous. Must get tons of visitors from Guadalajara. A (man made?) lake outside of town, with quite a few new houses getting built nearby. There's even a golf course. The entire area is beautiful. It's a bit remote. I think it takes about 30-45 (?) minutes to drive down the mountain to Sayula, a fairly good sized city with services. Probably gets a bit cold at that elevation during the winter. Just depends what you're looking for.
