cuisinart replacement?

You know how, as you get older, time flies and you think the things you bought ten or 20 years ago are still "new"? Well, it has come to my attention that the steel blade on my regular-size Cuisinart is about 15 years old and is gumming things to death rather than slicing them in bits. A new blade will cost me about $32 USD mail order and can be brought back from the US, or at least I hope so if I keep it in the box. (If someone has bought one in Guadlajara and can tell me where, please help!) On the other hand the motor on the old one is getting old, so maybe I should just opt for a brand new Cuisinart at Wal*Mart or somewhere here and pay $140 or so for a machine that will outlive me. What do you Cuisinart users think?

Thanks. I had pretty much convinced myself of that by the time I finished the message but needed someone to give me a kick in the right direction. As Peg Bracken said of the leftover, "When in doubt, throw it out."

I generally adhere to the throw it out and get a new one mentality in most things. However in my kitchen I will admit to having several items that were purchased 20+ years ago at garage sales and still serve me daily and faithfully. One of those is my electric wok which I bought at a yard sale for $3.00 and sees service several times a week and is older than the hills.

Just like me, it keeps on ticking...

When they stop serving you faithfully, I imagine you will replace them. As long as they work, why replace?

I also vote "new one". I've had less than satisfactory experiences with Cuisinart replacement parts that don't quite fit, while back in the States.
