You're right, Rolly. But maybe folks just find it easier to remember an acronym that is pronounceable instead of just letters and therefore have resisted the change from INAMI to INM. I have noticed that often in Mexico, government agencies are abbreviated using more than one letter for each word in the title. For example, la Secretaría de Gobierno is SEGOB; the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes is CONACULTA; OSIDEM is la Orquesta Sinfónica de Michoacán; and el Instituto Nacional de Migración remains INAMI in the hearts and minds of Morelianos.
