Since I first visited this site only a few weeks,I have had a renewed in Mexicoismos.I for some time have been interested in words whose orgins go back to the Aztecs and other indiginous groups in Mexico and how they're used in today's Spanish. I know the meaning of guajolote, tecolote zopilote and Ill stop with zenzontle. Does anyone know if any or all of these words are used in all of Mexico? For example is pavo a different bird from guajolote? The bird is the word.

Turkey has a jillion regional varieties in Spanish. Ask a group of people from different backgrounds---they'll all give you "pavo" and....I should have kept a list!

I´m pretty shure Pavo is the same thing as Guajolote.. i can say that cuz I´m from mexico sol... yeah..
but it just depends on the people... like which cities or rural places they are from to name the bird with all those different names..
is just like.. the people from specific places are used to named it with an specific name, and it might come to the point to not know that they call it with different names... but people who are more like from the cities.. well.. i think most of us know all those different names...
well.. thats what i think..
visit Guadalajara
