I LOVE reading Bittman, and glad he did this. But he forgot to write at all about Yucatan food! Sure, like him, I can't decide which salsa is better, but that is true for hundreds of places I have visited. Now that he has a taste of Mexican food, maybe he will be back.

Bittman's articles about Mexican food are generally so full of errors that they're painful to read. I've begged the NYTimes to do fact checks on what he writes, but to no avail.

Today's article may or may not be on the mark (I know almost nothing about the cuisine of the Yucatán, so have no basis for comparison), but it's no surprise that he doesn't quote chapter and verse of Yucatán recipes. He learned who to quote, but nothing else at depth.

Esperanza, as I read it, he doesn't say anything about Yucatan cooking. He liked what he called "Mexican Cooking." Oh, well. Why not invite him to one of your food tours, if you still do them? Not Yucatan food, obviously, just what he calls Mexican food. He would be astounded. Dee
