Do you see the word "quote" on the upper right side of the message you are reading? That is the "quote" command or icon. Left-click on it and you will see the message not in quotes but with a line above and below it. Then write your message below the line and finally left click on for example "Post Reply" at the bottom right of the message your are working on

I don't know about the "append signature to post" command. I am not even sure what it means.

Well, I don't see a line, but I'm on a Mac, so that could be the difference....we'll see if this works...

The problem with the quote function is that it does not always work -- very unreliable. To make matters worse, it may appear to be working when you type your message, but when you post your work, it gets screwed up and doesn't come out like you thought it would. That's why I tell people not to use the Quote.

For years the Gossamer folks have been going to fit it, but....

No, Pete. I see failed quotes often from many posters. My impression is that I see more failed quotes than successful ones, and that doesn't count the ones were the poster deleted the botch. It's been going on long before Vista limped on stage.

Actually, I don't use the quote option that much, so I don't know how reliable it is.

The quote failed this time, but I think I understand why.

The quote failed this time, but I think I understand why. The quote took up the whole screen and when I tried to add to the quote therefore requiring srolling it failed. I wonder if it is related

So as long as the quote does not take up the whole screen, it seems to work

Sorry about the repeat posts. I was trying to recreate a quote failure. Which I appearently did when I quoted something that was too large. I will make a few more attempts

Maybe my theory is not correct. I don't know I guess I will find out if
my theory is correct
if this message shows up

MY THEORY WAS WRONG. One time out of what six or seven posts, that which I typed did not show up at the bottom of the quote.

I always previewed my posts, maybe that had something to do with the good results. Well I have done enough posting.

Sorry about all of the boring test posts

Glad you did all those tests, Pete. Proves my point -- unreliable. Just because it works today is no guarantee it will work next time.

Why even bother with the "quote"? If you are replying to the thread, all should be taken in stride.
The "append signature to post" adds your post whatever you have created for a "signature" in you profile. Cool
