After about 42 or so years of living and visiting Mexico, this was supposed to be the big one, the year we were supposed to move down south and set up housekeeping. The unexpected can drop on you like an anvil and things can change in an instant. Due in part to a turn of events a sudden change of plans have been temporarily put on hold. You see, my wife of 35 years at age 53 (so young) is undergoing necessary and special medical treatment until the end of this September. Her strength is less than what it was prior to treatments and she has lost considerable weight, of which we kid about through smiles and laughter rooted in the unsaid hope the sun will be brighter come September. Her beauty as a woman is only surpassed by the inner beauty, strength, and compassion of her heart. My actions and subtle treatment of her with a mix of everything else, tells her that she is special and I count my blessings for having been so fortunate. If all goes well, which I’m sure it will, I wish the following: Our visit to Morelia, Patzcauro and surrounding areas will bring us the joy we found in Chapalita in Guad, Aguascalientes and Zacatecas. Find a comfortable abode where the balance of our lifetime will be shared as it always has been. May our youngsters of 22 and 24 fair well in life’s endeavors and may we be there for them if we are needed. Sipping a bone chilling, delicious Martini, casually viewing new vistas overlooking a land I’ve dreamed about for so many years and finally saying, “its happened.” Health permitting, my wife and I will still be dancing and enjoying a smile and a twirl around the dance floor with a backdrop of memories from living in Big Sur, when we first met and all else which followed from that very precious moment in time.
