Abastos tour this coming Tues. March 4

Wendee Hill of ACA is conducting a tour of the abastos in Guadalajara next Tues. March 4, if she gets enough people. I am going and bringing a camera--thought some of you might like to go, too. See details below.

On Tuesday, March 4th from 10 a.m. to 4 pm, join us for a guided tour of the Mercado de Abastos. See where many of the restaurant and vendors at Lakeside purchase their merchandise for retail sales. Departure is from the Ajijic Auditorium.

Mercado de Abastos is Guadalajara's wholesale produce market, the second largest in Mexico. In addition to fruits and vegetables, you'll find candies and goodies, meat, fish and cheese, and any dried spices or herbs you want.

On the road there Wendee will briefly review the seasonal veggies and fruits, and briefly explain how to buy them. Once there we'll be guided to her favorite locations in the Market and she will provide a brief overview of how the Abastos is laid out.

Yes, there is shopping time and a lunch break. Once you've exhausted the shopping, enjoy lunch at a Mexican place, good Asian fare or simple roasted chicken from the grill! Bring your cooler with ice and shopping bags and good walking shoes.

The cost for the tour is 70 pesos plus bus charges of 80 pesos. A minimum 41 people is required before departure.

Proceeds benefit the ACA Eco Training Center. Please sign-up at the office at LCS and if you have any questions, please email Glorine Barnhardt at boiseblues@msn.com.
