Sonora Free Zone

Does anyone know if the Sonora Free Zone has been expanded to include more than just the western-most part of the state?

A couple of young gringo English teachers in my Spanish class at the university claim that the entire state is a free zone and no car permits are required. But that goes against everything I have heard up to this time, as well as that which I am able to locate online.

John, we sure haven't heard anything like this. I suggest you post this query over on the San Carlos forum and listen to the furor that would cause there. Or better yet have your Mexican buddy call Migra in Guaymas and ask them. The phone number there is 622-222-3457 or 622-224-0199.

Where/What is the San Carlos forum? Are the folks in San Carlos not covered by the North Pacific (Sonora, et al) areas where I posted this question?

I have read other posts referring to forums that I have never heard of before and cannot find.

John - try here, this is the saner of the two San Carlos area forums and you should get an answer there. I have not read of any extension of the area on the San Carlos forums, and they would be the first people to know, I'm sure.
Not many people in the North of Mexico seem to use Mexconnect, which is a shame:
