Mexican style construction--those bricks

Okay, so the the bricks go up, the concrete pillars/castillos go up, and the concrete beam/cadena goes on top...
My question is, does the beam support the weight above, or are those bricks also structural?
I'd like to open some walls if I can.

The bricks are not structural. Free free to kick them out. But do leave the columns and beans in place; you need them. The columns hold up the roof, and the beams hold the box together and act as headers for the doors and windows.
