Me vale gorro?

I was reading an article in El Universal, in which they talk about auto accidents in Mexico City. Towards the end of the article, they mentioned "me vale gorro", including the quotation marks. I believe it was in reference to the bad attitude of the drivers.

When I looked it up on the web, I still was not clear on what it really meant, what it derived from, etc. I did see one reference that implied that the word gorro was vulgar. My dictionary did not help either.

Gracias de antemano.

Richard

Better way of saying "me vale madre"? If it is fron DF, it explains coded slang, only understandable to chilangos.

¨Me vale gorro¨or ¨me vale madre¨ or simply ¨me vale . . .¨ means I don´t give a damn. Gorro is a hat or a cap.
