I'm looking for a "best kept secret" hotel in Guadalajara for next weekend in the range of $50.00. Anybody have any ideas?? Thanks.

I'm sure others will know exactly what you're looking for, but I really enjoy Hotel Tapitio on the road from the airport. It sits on a high hillwith a 360 degree view of Guadalajara, large beautiful rooms and very nice restaurant. It cost's about $75.00 a night, but I think worth it.

We are going to be there next week from Thursday to Sunday.

Try it if it is not out of your range.

all leading in the same direction,
so it doesn't matter which path you take.
The only one wasting time is the one
who runs around and around the mountain,
telling everyone that his or her path is wrong.

Google Hotel San Francisco Plaza in Guadalajara. It's located in the Centro Histórico, meets your price, and is pleasant enough for most everyone's needs. A friend from England stayed there for three nights last week and was quite satisfied.

The Hotel Tapatío, mentioned in drmike's post, is miles from any sites of interest in Guadalajara.

We will second the recommendation of the Hotel San Francisco Plaza. We stayed there for several days in March. It is several blocks south of the cathedral, but still within walking distance. The price on the web site was 650 pesos per night for two people, reasonable, if slightly more than the $50 US per night you were aiming for.

Thanks for the advice. I checked on it recently and they do not have elevators. I don't do stairs very well. Do you know if they have 1st floor rooms? Nancy

Yes they do have first floor rooms. When we first arrived we had a not very good room on the third floor, and they had no better room for us, but they changed us the next day to a very nice first floor room, with doors opening onto the courtyard.

Sometimes it seems that the room that you have is almost more important than what hotel you are in.

You might try Quinta Don Jose on Calle Reforma 139 in Tlaquepaque. I think their website is www.quintadonjose.com. Wonderful breakfast, cooked to order if you wish, right near the historic center, great hosts, dog friendly, varied rates depending on the room type desired, first floor rooms.

Well, say hi to Art and Estela for me and hugs for the new baby. We are down at Lakeside right now, but we have an apartment around the corner from the inn, so I haven't seen the new addition since she was 20 minutes old!
