amplifier vs ethernet cable

My computer is connected to my husband's plugged-in computer via a two-wire router, plus a LinkSys receiver that is hard-wired to my computer by a cable about 1.5 meters long. I can get on line and access various websites and email with ease, but only about 50% of the time. Very frustrating. His computer is always sending and receiving well.

My husband thinks we need to put an amplifier somewhere between the router and the receiver. I thought maybe we could just put a longer ethernet cable on my LinkSys receiver, and move it to line-of-sight with the router. This would require about 5 meters of ethernet cable.

Any suggestions?

If I understood you correctly, your suggestion is a good one simply use a longer cable between your computer and what you called a receiver which I presume is an an Ethernet bridge. this is by far the most economical solution.
