Motorhome w/car in tow, one person

Just thought the reply below from Sanborn's Insurance (www.sanbornsinsurance.com) might help others.I kept reading that one person could only take one vehicle into Mexico. I'd be entering by myself, towing my car. I knew, from reading, about titles and/or permission from a title holder; credit cards and bonds. I was wondering, could I not do this? It seems most writings make the assumption that a couple is crossing the border.From Sanborn's Insurance:
"Thank you for your recent inquiry. I verified with George, our road specialist, and he advised me that as far as we knew, a person is allowed to take a motorhome along with a tow vehicle into Mexico. Both vehicles must be in your name and the same credit card can be used. For additional information you can contact a Banjercito office. (This is the office at the border that issues the permits) Please advise at what border you will be crossing and I will send you the phone number. Please email or call us at 1-800-222-0158 with any further questions or concerns."

The one-car one-person rule is rigidly enforced by SHCP. I can not remember a time when Mexico allowed more than one car per name into the country. It appears that a motorbike can accompany one motor vehicle one person if the motorbike has no license plate (some officials insist that the device have no head or tail light)
I also wish that they would scrap the credit card rule and just tie-in the visitor's name to the tourist card. If the motor vehicle permit isn't returned at the end of 180 days then further admission to the country would be denied.

Of course you are correct, David. But this is Mexico and you must leave logic on "the other side". The current sticker program came about because the Auto Industry in Mexico did a lot of lobbying. The Hacienda came up with this idea. They too were upset at the number of illegal cars(lost tax dollars). I dont think they could link the permit to your visa. Three different departments of the Gov.: Hacienda Immigration, and Aduana BTW: in Sonora there are still people smuggling autos in every day. They either pay mordida or pay a Rancher @ km 21 to use his property to circumvent the checkpoint. Ah, Mexican ingenuity.

I was towing my ol'69 Land Rover behind the Winnebago, crossing at Otay. The clutch was out on the Rover and it did not run. The aduana was very inquisitive:
"Where are you taking the vehicle?"
Just over there, I point, you can see Torres de lago from here.
"Does it run?"
No, I hope to fix it someday.
"Will you take it farther south after you fix it?"
Nope.
