Hello husker and others.

I looked at the "Daily Words and Phrases" url provided. Unfortunately I don't like it. Why? Here is why. The daily word for October 1 was huesped--guest. Here is the beginning of the definition from the url:

>>>If you stay in a hotel, pensión and so forth in the Spanish-speaking world, you may well come across requests and instructions to the guests, such as:<<<

A pensión usually refers to a fixed monthly income as a result of retirement. On the continent of Europe it also refers to places in which to stay (retirement hotels?) but here in México and probably some other parts of the "Spanish-speaking world" pensión is applied to long term parking for automobiles. Not for guests. So, I was immediately turned off.

But to everone his own media naranja.

Adiós. jerezano

Not being a scholar only a lowly struggling student, I was led to believe the tile of this forum is "Learning Spnaish" rather that "Mexican Spanish". By the response I am led to believe the "other" Spanish speaking people should stay home as the will not be understood the same as I won't.

Hello,

>>> En la variedad está el gusto.<<<<

Looking for an English idiom (modismo) I would translate that as:

Variety is the spice of life.

Of course, that doesn't give us a literal translation but it does approximate our English idioms.

Adiós. jerezano.
