Driving Time from Ajijic to Mazatlan?

I'm trying to decide whether to take my son and daughter-in-law to Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan for a vacation, and want to aim for the closer destination. I know that it takes my sluggish old VW about five and a half hours to drive from Ajijic to PV, and I hope someone can tell me how many hours it takes to reach Mazatlan.<p>Thanks!
