we need some coffee

I do not wish to offend, however:
THIS SITE IS BOOOOOOOOOORING.
I realize that we don't want to trample on toes in Mexico (according to our monitors) and have no desire to be bubba-ized, however it would be nice and informative to let us kiddies speak our minds on subjects other than Mexico. Maybe some issues in the USA or Canada or worldwide. Whatever happens wherever does affect us ex-pats in Mexico and therefore is about here.
I don't know what happened to Bubba (but I sure would have liked to have read that post), but I miss him. I really admired his command of English as well as his general knowledge. If anyone does communicate with him, please send my regards.
Oh, I know, there was a certain abrasiveness and I have the burnt tail feathers as proof. But, you know, I don't remember those times, only fun times (especially at someone elses expense.

Yes I guess that the powers that be had to make a choice, either allow Bubba to continue to post or not to. Yes he ruffled a few feathers, yes I guess he went too far sometimes, but golly he made things entertaining, and I for one miss him. But maybe I would not feel that way if I had been one of his targets. I just don't know. But then again, I had met him and I already knew that often he had a smile on his face when making some of his very strong posts. He was just having fun, and unfortunately sometimes some of his targets couldn't tell that he was having a good time, and that those barbs were often meant in a friendly way.

What was it, about 10 days ago, at Joly's (Yolies, I don't know I can't spell) in ajijic where I get my hair cut, I heard this friendly harassing (and/or teasing) voice, it was Bubba. He seemed fine. We kidded each other for a few minutes and then I moved on. That's Bubba. That's just the way it is. And I find him very entertaining.

Yes since he left, the posting volume here has GREATLY decreased. And it has been as a result of his banning that some of his friends have also stopped posting here. A friend, Steve Miller, has started a new forum where one is allowed more freedom, even Pedro is allowed to post there. Although this new forum has only been on line for a few months, its posting volume is already 4 to 5 times as great as this forum.

You must remember that other site is just a forum. This site is much more. The forum here is just a small part of this site. Maybe some people use only the forum as a need to occupy their time. That is a shame, as there are so many things to do and places to go to occupy ones time in Mexico.

That is a very good point Don. Many folks use those other forums as a social outlet, rather than a place to gather valuable information. Also I really don't know what Bubba said to get himself banned, as I don't/didn't read all of his posts. So I am not suggesting that he should have or should not have been banned.

By the way Don, it's sunny in Seattle and the Blue Angles are flying by getting ready for Seafair weekend. Oh and of course, I get the Seattle Times delivered to the front door of the condo every morning. I still miss Mexico though and can hardly wait to get back.

Bubba is alive, well, and multiposting on another Chapala forum. In fact, he more or less has a dedicated thread. You can get your Bubbafix there if you're feeling deprived. Hound Dog is Bubba, unleashed.

As another poster pointed out, this forum is not about personalities, although it's more interesting when the lively minds jump in. It is also not a "chat room". There are plenty of those available for your pleasure.

As I see it, this forum is about Mexico: how to get the most out of living here. It includes Mexico news, stories and some Mexican politics as well. It is also designed to help people find the answers they need to cope with getting here and getting along once they are here. Even before I moved to Mexico, I found this an invaluable resource. I don't think I could have gleaned this information from most of the other websites in this area. I enjoy looking at the other local forums, too. Each has its place.

Hola Pete:

I see by your post, you are again in Seattle. To keep this post with a Mexican theme, you should stop in and have dinner at Rosita's Mexican Restaurant in the Green Lake area. My son-in-law, Sergio, owns and operates that restaurant or you can dine at Luisa's Mexican Restaurant in Greenwood area. My son, Scott, owns and operates that restaurant.
For your information. many of the Mexican Restaurant owners in the Seattle Area have homes in Cuautla, Jalisco.

Bubba is alive and well . . . good! My focus on the post was to bemoan the fact that it is dry as a desert, even dryer and to express the fact that a lot of the livelyness had diminshed.
This, however, opens the door to all those 'goody two shoes' and superior beings to pontificate on the true meaning of Mexconnect.
Since I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, I am aware of the benefits with 'belonging'. In fact I would rather just read what all of the 'intellectuals' have to say and get whatever information I need.
Keep up the good work. Pretty soon this will be a vacant space or you wishy-washy contributors will be able to exchange recepies in peace without my interference.
adios

Don and Pete

I lived in the Ravenna neighborhood for most of the 80"s and have run around Green Lake a bazillion times. I used to thrive on the small ethnic restaurants all around that area. When I return these days, I find that the hole-in-the-wall haunts of the past are now exclusive upscale "everything"...... the area has lost it's charm, in my opinion.

Only you guys will get this line.......I used to scratch my head when I read Emmett Watson's "Grrrrrrrrrrr Report" in the PI about the changes to urban Seattle. I was young and stupid then, thinking....... what is with this curmudgeon???

Emmett was so on target with his comments. The quaint urban Seattle I recall is now just a gigantic Metroplex lacking the "spunk-factor" it once had.......

I recall when Tom Douglas was peeling his own potatoes at Cafe Sport, which had 15 tables............ now you can't get a seat at one of his many spots in the city.

Progress is not always pretty or appreciated..........but likely inevitable. Is Emmett still writing??

Speaking of Emmett........there are parallels with Senor Bubba........ Sure the guy has an edge, but both made me think beyond the normal POV. I would agree that this website has lost it's "spunk-factor" too. It is no longer entertaining for me and I come to the site less and less. But as many have said, M/C has it's place as a resource guide, I would agree with that.

This is from the wishywashy goodytwoshoes department: Why don't you liven up the forum with a little wit and wisdom of your own instead of bemoaning the loss of other people who did?

My point, in case you missed it the first time, is that if the only value of a forum relies on a few clever wordsmiths' input, it is a sorry justification for its existence. No go grab your coffee and get on over to one of the livlier chat rooms. And, if you jump in to the game and get a load of cement dumped on your head by the newly unmoderated participants, at least you won't be bored. Buen suerte.

I also grew up in the Ravenna/Greenlake area, Graduated from Roosevelt High (Go Roughriders) and agree completely with you. It is just not the same place anymore. I also miss Bubba and his many barbs, many of which were directed at me. I still find the forum interesting but not half as entertaining as it was with Bubba around to keep us on our toes. I will have to say that he caused me to put much more thought into my posts than I might otherwise have.

Having once been involved in another site that basically deteriorated into jokes, idiotic pictures and mean spirited name calling, I find the focus of Mexico Connect refreshing. I miss Bubba, when he was articulate and informative but he wasn't always.

I also think that there is a place for a little fun and fun poking particularly toward those who don't live full time in Mexico, but know all about how it is to live here. It is also valuable to challenge those who make blanket statements about Mexico based on living in one small area. From here in the Yucatan , I really don't know if something I observe is universally “Mexican” or a local phenomenon. Other good targets are those who plan teach Mexicans how to do things like they do in the U.S.A., the too lazy to look at a map people, the new age 2012 Rasta man-hippie-Buddhists and anyone who involves him or herself in the political structure of their adopted country. However as we all have our biases and areas of ignorance, I appreciate the relatively gentle correction that has been employed by the members of Mexico Connect.

On the whole, Mexico Connect is informative and entertaining, perhaps not as entertaining as watching someone else get picked on, which doesn't say very much about me. I have read the other forum where Bubba posts and find it is populated by many people who have very little to say, people who try to write in dialect, people who like to insult other people and posts that wander way off topic. I would never feel comfortable posting there as it is such a homogenized group of people. I may not totally agree with the moderators of this site but appreciate their efforts to keep the focus on Mexico, and to keep it from sinking to the lowest common denominator.

Me too! West Seattle (go Indians, although to be PC the old ladies are changing that).
True, the city isn't the same. My grandfather pioneered in Pigeon Point and I went to Kindergarten in YOungstown school, although they changed it to Cooper, because Youngstown had a too bad of a reputation. Too much has changed. It used to be a big/small city, now a huge city, although still beautiful.

I also miss Bubba"s posts. At least most of them I just do not believe it is necessary for any "good" writer to have to use profanity nor insult people.
