While I was stuck on a bus that takes 2 1/2 hours to go 100 meters (another story) I was chatting with a gentleman about the Battle of Puebla. In the US, many of us celebrate the event, but some of us do not know why. I mean, the battle was won allright, but wasn't the war lost and Maximilian installed as Emperor of Mexico. "Yes, thats true, he said, but he did not survive the position, the French failed to supply reinforcements." I guess they did not subscribe to the surge theory?
