I need some assistance with this problem:
For those who do not know this technique and wonder about how lovely the "old" walls look in B&Bs etc.... here is how it is done:
2 or three colors ragged and washed over the wall however the painter chooses to do it, then a Cheesecloth with wax and tar (which also has a solvent in it for spreadablility) are applied and rubbed into the wall.
Well, I don't like mine - it just got darker and darker, even though I kept saying lighter and lighter. So I want to remove the wax/tar "chapapolte" from the wall and paint it cream.
I was told this morning that in order to do this we must, use a solvent to remove the wax and tar, sand the walls, paint on a primer with some concrete dust mixed in it to assure adhesion to the existing wall, paint with primer and then final coat.
A friend mentioned attempting to wipe the wall with solvent enought to let an oil primer get a grip and then paitning - thus effectively eliminated 3 steps.
What I would like to know is has anyone repainted a chapolted wall and how did you do it?
