We are moving to Maz in 2 months. Have just signed up to Mexconnect. Our plan is to check into a hotel and look for a place to rent. We would like to get to know some expats soon after arriving. Are there some local venues where we can meet with expats to start getting aclimated? Nelson

There are two regular weekly groups of expats and tourists who meet. One is on Friday afternoons at Canucks Restaurant on Olas Altas Avenue, and the other is Sunday afternoons at Las Flores Hotel in the Golden Zone near the pool and restaurant area. Both meet at 4 pm, and attendance depends on time of year. There are several service clubs you can also join, once you are ready to do so.

There is alot to learn about various areas and living in Mazatlan (as with most new places), so renting is the recommended plan at first. It is pretty hot and humid right now, so make sure whatever you decide on has air conditioning! :-)

In the winter months, you will find an abundance of Canadian snowbirds, especially at Canucks Restaurant (owned by Canadians from Manitoba).
