Hi- My husband, daughters (ages 2 & 4) and I plan to move to Mexico, probably to Guadalajara, this fall. We currently live in San Francisco. After many years of high-stress high tech work plus the accompanying San Francisco fog, we are ready to pull up stakes here and head for adventures SOB. We figure now's the time to do it- when our kids are small and such a move will be much less disruptive. Plus- my parents are already living in Mexico! (Albeit in Alamos.) We have traveled extensively all over the world and want to introduce our kids early on to life outside the USA. I've spent a huge amount of time looking at this site over the past few days, and I'm hoping some of you might be able to give me some advice on neighborhoods to check out in and around Guadalajara. Alas, although we have not been to Guad yet, we have been to lots of other parts of Mexico many times over the years, and generally love the place. We think that Guad will probably be a good spot for us because of its cultural amenities, location, and climate. We're also urban creatures and prefer big cities- traffic, smog and all. I've seen lots of info about Lake Chapala, but that's not appealing to us. We are going to make 2 trips down to Guad this summer to explore the area and and learn about school and community options. That said, can anyone give us suggestions for neighborhoods to check out? We are not interested in gringo-only or gated areas or golf courses. We are into pedestrian-friendly, mixed areas that are within walking distance to shopping, coffee shops, etc. Places where we will find other families- Mexican, gringo, whatever. Finally, if any of you have suggestions for schools to look at, that would be great. Thanks so much! kristina
