Could you please help translate this posting? Muchas gracías. FRIENDS VS. MEXICAN FRIENDS

FRIENDS: Never ask for food.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Are the reason you have food.

FRIENDS: Will say "hello."
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Will give you a big hug and a kiss.

FRIENDS: Call your parents Mr. and Mrs.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Call your parents Mom and Dad

FRIENDS: Have never seen you cry.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Cry with you.

FRIENDS: Will eat at your dinner table and leave.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Will spend hours there, talking, laughing and just being together.

FRIENDS: Borrow your stuff for a few days then give it back.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Keep your stuff so long they forget it's
yous.

FRIENDS: know a few things about you.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Could write a book about you.

FRIENDS: Will leave you behind if that's what the crowd is doing.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Will kick the whole crowds' ass that left you.

FRIENDS: Would knock on your door.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Walk right in and say, "I'm home!"

FRIENDS: Are for a while.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Are for life.

FRIENDS: Might have a drink with you.
MEXICAN FRIENDS: Will stay till the bottle's empty.

FRIENDS: Will ignore this.

Hey doogie,

What happened? All you did was repeat Wendy Devlin's call for help (which she doesn't really need) but you didn't respond with that helping hand. Give our fellow students of Spanish a helping hand and translate (traducir) a couple stanzas.

Hello all beginning Spanish students and those of us who are a little more advanced: Where are you?

wendy devlin has given us a challenge. Why don't we take it up and do something with it? If nothing else it will show us whether we need to work harder or can rest a bit more comfortably in the Spanish that we have already acquired.

Her challenge is not really hard. In fact it is really easy. If we, as serious students, can't translate reasonably a couple of these stanzas, then we DO need help. Wendy, and Senor Quevedo, and the rest of us who know a little Spanish are all here to help you and me learn.

And even if we can translate the stanzas reasonably well, aren't there one or two questions in our minds that perhaps there is a better way? Let the experts help us out.

Remember, life here in México can be a whale of a lot better if we know a bit of language and customs.

And for those real beginners my signature will say:
Long live Jerez. Long live Zacatecas. Long live México.

Saludos Jerezano, I wish I knew what happened to the translation. This is not the first time it has happened to me. When I use the "quote" mode to reply, so that I'll have the message I'm translating in front of me, my input dissappears by the time it gets posted on the forum and only the original is left. Am I doing something wrong?

Use 'cut and paste' as the quote function doesn't seem to work.

Perhaps gives me too much credit...for both cunning...and ability to translate accurately.

Appreciate help in translation as then can check my own efforts against more accomplished Spanish speaker's.

Muy estimada Wendy, Desafortunadamente no conozco el lenguaje de las computadoras tan bién como conozco el lenguaje castellano. Espero que en otra ocasión pueda contribuir a este maravilloso foro.

Dear Wendy, unfortunately I don't know computers as well as I know Spanish. I hope I will be able to contribute to this wonderful Forum some other time.

Tapatío de corazón: Tapatío=Jaliscense? A native of Jalisco in my heart. In my heart I am a native of Jalisco. Good nickname.

But your excuse isn't any good. Your computer knowledge is sufficient to post your excuse. Ipso facto, it is good enough to make your contribution to experanza's request. Do as she suggests: Highlight the stanza she wants a translation for and then paste it to your response. Then below it put the Spanish translation she needs. Simple, isn't it?

We can't afford to lose any input on this forum. We need to stimulate our students. Do you have any ideas how it can be done? Quevedo has tried, esperanza has tried, others have tried and this valuable resource is going to waste. Help us out.
