On the route we take (through Zacatecas) we fork out just under $50 in tolls.

Go to sct.gob.mx and find out what the current tolls are. They should know what are the prices.

You do not need correct change at toll booths - in fact, they (along with Pemex stations) are a good place to get change for large denomination bills such as 200 and 500 peso notes. It seems like small businesses in Mexico never have change for large bills, so its always wise to break them when you can. At Pemex's and toll booths, I always hand them the largest bill I have.
: We are planning on crossing at Laredo, going to Chapala and would like to know what the tolls are and how many so I have the right amount of pesos and the right denomenations or don't you have to have the correct amount? Nogales to Mazatlan about $150 with a camper/5th wheel. Funny thing
is, when with some friends, each with same sort of setup-all different rates.
That's mexico. no use fighting it, we tried with the reciepts even right there because
we used our cb to let eachother know. Funny
Remember: The road south of Mazatlan is free along the
coast from there down. Also, south of Culiacan, the free road (Libre) is well marked and the most expensive for tolls!!!
