: Thanks to all who responded to my request for Customs info. A great help and very reassuring. David
For anyone intimidated by the confusion at Nuevo Laredo, let me suggest an alternative.
There is a little used 24hr crossing at
Roma,TX/Miguel Alleman,MX. I used this crossing in Feb. and completed car papers and customs/immigration in about 15 min. The car permit is available immediately after crossing the bridge on the left.
You can park your car in the lot and walk to Customs/Immigration which is in the adjoining building. Mex 54 just west of M A is a decent
non-toll road that is the shortest route from the border to Monterey. Comes in past the airport and connects with the bypass around Monterey.
As I said, it's out of the way on the US side but that's probably why there is only local traffic
at the border. VERY easy to cross.
