Stack overflow - what is this?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Every time I click into Mexconnect and the forums my computer gives me a ringtone and a message square pops up on the screen that says "Stack Overflow: line 1030"

What does this mean?

Well, good to know someone else gets the same message sometime. I don't know much of anything about how these machines work but I do know that I can't just keep clicking the "OK" button forever because if I do something bad is bound to happen.

This is no help, but I usually check this forum 4 or 5 times per day on my laptop and occasionally on my tower. I have never received said message and have no idea what it means.

Yes! Some people, using some browsers, have been getting some strange stack overflow messages. I'm no techie, so we've asked our site developers to help try and identify the offending code so we can fix it. This may take some time (assuming it is a fault in our code, and not some other problem), so please be patient. The initial report was linked to the homepage of the subscription side - www.mexconnected.com The precise line listed in the message may change as we try a few things behind the scenes to see what is happening.

It might help us to identify the problem more rapidly if you could post the URL of any offending page/s.

I'm getting that message too. I thought the camera looked at my fat gut and had the computer issue a warning.

Wow, you mean Tony, that there is actually something abnormal going with my computer that I didn't cause by pushing a wrong button or trying to change things that I'm not allowed to change - you know those personal computer administrator privileges which my husband keeps strictly for himself...

Thank you, thank you....

Since he doesn't wander here about at Mexconnect he won't see that message pop up and I won't have to say "All I did was type I didn't mess with any of the settings, I swear!"

Because, of course I am guilty, I've been flitting around the controls to make the type bigger so I can see it without my reading glasses and it took me a while to find out where to do that and then, of course, I flipped it back and forth a couple of times, and then the message started showing up...... and I figured, oops, shoot and darn!

I'm pretty sure I'm the guilty party here, as David McL and I were working on the codes last week.

The stack overflow message should appear only on the free side, and only on a few pages (thank God).

The forums require a subscription, so you might want to set your bookmarks to http://www.mexconnected.com

That way you won't miss all the great articles each month, many of which answer the questions posted to the forums.

Meanwhile, we're working to locate the exact error and fix it as soon as possible. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

Back in the old days of assembly language programing ... a stack overflow was common for us beginners. It's hard to imagine you'd get errors like that in the higher level languages used on a web site.

It used to be that you would set a stack size for a given variable that the CPU would process. Make it too short and you would overflow. All kinds of hits on Google about PHP and JAVA script problems but probably means software needs to be updated or patched to fit web needs.

Blah blah blh

Hmmm.

Apparently it's seen only with Internet Explorer, not in Firefox. I no longer have Netscape.

Doesn't happen everytime, but here is what was showing when it showed up citing "line 1023"

http://mexconnected.com/perl/foros/gforum.cgi?

My mexconnect is set-up as it always has been and the coputer remembers the sign-in stuff so I just click on www.mexconnect.com it in the drop down history, daily of course, and then the front page comes up and the message dings on top of the page.

I spent several hours today working on it and the error is now at line 1023.

Suggest you click on www.mexconnected.com instead (so far, no error)

We will fix this thing. I promise.

Issue should now be resolved, at least on the home page of the free side: www.mexconnect.com - if it appears elsewhere, please post the offending URL/URLs (or e-mail them with a brief message to mexico@mexconnect.com) so they can be fixed, too - thanks!

I was thrilled to find out it wasn't my error but a java script no one has touched in a long time.

: )

So I don't expect it to show up on any of the other pages we worked on. However if it does, please let me know... PM me if you wish.

Thanks to all of you for your patience.
