An Arlomo bite

Can't Post | Private Reply
One of my employees has a terribly swollen leg. He was bitten by a Arlomo. Apparently it is a small bug of some sort that burrows into the skin, eating what is in its way and is quite difficult to get rid of.

Does anyone know exactly what an Arlomo is? Most of my Spanish speaking friends kind-of-sort-of-know what they are. Most of my bilingual friends kind-of-sort-of know what they are. Let me say they all kind of sort of know what they are.

Could someone tell me in more scientific terms than "it's a bug that burrow under your skin eating as it goes" what the heck an Arlomo is? It's not in any dictionary I have

Thanks

I think arlomo is a herb used to treat wounds and cuts and black widow spider bites. There are bugs that burrow and eat the flesh..one in particular gets in the eyes of children in Mexico.

Pete - you can read some Spanish so this Google search result may help you - an arlomo is a bug or worm which bites according to the website I read and present in Michoacan particularly.

thank you all so much. So much for checking where I was posting. I meant to post same in the Ajijic forum. I will now go to the link you suggested bournemouth.

And by the way Bournemouth, I am always telling others to go to Google to get answers to questions. However I never bothered to check because, I could not find said name in even a very large dictionary. SO MUCH FOR not FOLLOWING MY OWN ADVISE Smile

That sounds formidable!

This sounds like a "Pajajuelo" bite. It is a sort of tick that are usually found where cattle lay under oak trees, at least thats the case in Central Coast area of California. I was raised on a cattle ranch and heard about them as a small boy. I believe the spelling is correct. I knew of two people who were amputees as a result of the bite, but that was many years ago and we have come far in the medical field since those times. John
