Help! I've just come across the term "mangas de cruz", in connection with a list of religious items.
I'm sure that someone more religious than I am will know the correct English for this... and your reward will be in Heaven!

"Cloth decoration, mounted on hoops and with a cilindrical shape ending in a cone, that covers part of the main rod of the cross in some churches."

To fetch us a translation it is important to note that manga has more than one meaning in Spanish. The usual is,

1. f. Parte del vestido en que se mete el brazo, sleeve. [My Lady Greensleeves, Mi señora Mangasverdes.]

But also,

10. f. Tela dispuesta en forma cónica que sirve para colar líquidos, a cone shaped cloth filter, like those used to prepare coffee.

The Diccionario de la Real Academia Española gives us several other definitions. In most of them the common denominator for manga appears to be the cilindrical and conical shapes of the artifact in question.

In English the situation is different. Manga is translated, it seems, according to the function, the use given to the manga in each case.

So, how do we translate manga de cruz? Cross sleeve? Cross hose pipe? Cross strainer? Cross piping bag?
