Brian - I realize that this issue has really bothered you. Why not see if you can find a feed that it is a little more specific and offer it up for approval by our esteemed leader.

Here is one I have looked at occasionally but don't really think it is much good:

Brian,

I scanned (quickly) the articles on the site you referenced (http://tinyurl.com/2nyzsx ), and did find articles opposing illegal immigration and the granting of bank accounts to illegal aliens.

I also found an article that discussed a FL state representative’s attempt to ban the term "illegal alien" from official FL documents.

It is possible to be a Mexicophile, and still be opposed to illegal immigration. So, I see nothing wrong with this site including articles that present both sides of the argument.

Pat

When you find yourself on the side of the minority, it may also be time to pause and reflect.

The core issue is that of selection. Does Moreover.com explain its standards and does it invite reader feedback?

I would agree that this story in particular is not worthy of being picked up by Moreover. It certainly is not appropriate to Mexico Connect. I wouldn't call that censorship, because the story will be distributed and found via other channels.

Personally, I wish that Mexico Connect would develop its own formula for gathering Mexico-specific news. It could even replace Moreover with the Google News search

INteresting possibility Ron.
So I just did a comparison between Moreover from MXC's front page and Google:
To me there is a big qualitative difference between the two - and I would take Moreover for diversity, relevance and depth.
Tomorrow it might be different.!

Thanks, David. That's a good review of today's offerings. Here's a follow-up question -- Are Mexico Connect features picked up by any news service?

With all the talk of Web 2.0, it should be time that readers and publishers begin have a greater role in ranking and rating news stories.

Hello.

I use the Google search feed for Mexico and am not too happy with it. In addition to the lack of coverage that Moreover has, Google also sends me much more information about NEW Mexico than I want to know. And it would be so simple for them to exclude New Mexico by searching for periodicals reporting Mexico-New. On the other hand I have never seen a reference to New Mexico on the Mexconnect pages unless the article ties in to us here in the real Mexico.

Google is not even using its own search engine to its best advantage.

Adiós. jerezano.

Yes there is. This is the advanced news search link wherein you can exclude certain terms (enclose in quotes for best results) and choose locations of the news sources.

Hello,

Yes, that advanced service works well with the one exception that I have to make it.

I guess I should have said that I am using the Google Alert service where they automatically e mail the links for the articles they have found. There is no way on that alert to exclude the New Mexico articles. Yes, in the best of all possible worlds, there would be that ability.

I'm sorry if I'm late getting in on this conversation as I haven't been on MexicoConnect for a while. The article in question is authored by a fellow named Frosty Woolridge. Mexican immigration is his big issue! I find him to be extremely prejudiced, using partial truths and seemingly with other agendas. He posts his racists diatribe frequently on Rense.com. I refuse to read his articles as I do not think they are meaningful or accurate. I choose not to allow his negativity in my life.

I do not advocate censorship, but suggest if you find his thoughts demeaning and prejudicial, please do not read them. If enough people refuse to open his articles perhaps they will not longer be posted.
