LA to Merida...how to avoid D.F.?

Can't Post |

: We want to go down the West Coast to Guadalajara, then to SMA, Puebla and out to Veracruz.
: Is there any way to avoid Mexico City? We don't really want to stay in the city overnight. And we'd like to avoid it altogether.
: Would appreciate any suggestions.
I'm going to agree with 'Loco'...DF isn't that bad, as long as you watch the road signs and KEEP MOVING; but his emphasis on 'daytime' is appropriate. If you are still nervous about it (which is a good thing to be!), the suggestion of Cuernavaca is a very good one: east out of Toluca, then south through La Marquesa, pass the lakes at Zempoala, and there you are. There is a serious problem with this route, however: and that is that it is VERY easy to fall in love with Cuernavaca and never leave it...that is to say, 6 or 7 years ago I was on my way to Veracruz and spent one night here...and then another...and I'm sure you get my drift. Finally got to visit Veracruz, but scurried back to Cuernavaca like a little bunny, don't ever want to live anywhere else in my life. Hope you have a fun trip, whichever way you go...Regards.
