Any ideas for working in Mexico?

Can't Post | Private Reply
So we just sold our home and will be moving to Cuyutlan Colima in a few weeks. My husband has some ideas as to what he will be doing. I am looking for ideas for work where I will be able to care for my 1 year old son. I have worked in the past as a realtor, loan officer, waitress and teacher. I am 30 years old and I want something I will enjoy. Ideally I would like to start a business... I read a couple of posts on the subject already, but any ideas would be appreciated

Vilma, my standard advice to folks moving from North of the Border to Mexico is this: if you have to earn a living to support yourself here, you should probably stay up north.

I'm sorry if that sounds negative; it's only meant to be realistic.

I agree with esperanza ... however if you are determined you should head for a city like Manzanillo, not a little nearly deserted beach town like Cuyutlan

hola,

Mexican forums get quite a few inquiries like yours. Without knowing particulars, about your immigration status, it is difficult to make helpful suggestions.

For example: if you are married to a Mexican national who can work llegally in his country...that is one scenario.

If neither of you are Mexican nationals, that is quite another.

The other posts so far are offering very good advice.

Chucking it all and heading south of the border can look like a grand adventure. It can be that, or your worst nightmare. Which, will depend largely on how well you plan ahead.

One issue is the laws in Mexico designed to keep non-citizens OUT of the work force. The objective is to give Mexican citizens the job opportunities. Most of the details on this can be found on a forum search.

There is good general information on www.rollybrook.com.

Whatever you do, don't get "stuck in Mexico" like a couple who posted on one of these forums some time ago. They were stony broke and couldn't even afford the plane or bus fare home. Keep that "going back" fund intact.

From a U.S. viewpoint, it's hard to realize that there are no "safety nets" here for the unlucky, but that's how it is.

Buena suerte

I guess I should have offered more details. We will not really be needing to work to support ourselves, however both of us want to work or do something. We both hold dual citizenship Mexican and USA) My husband plans to do some construction. I guess I just want to find something I will enjoy doing even if I don't make too much money doing it.

Given that you both have Mexican citizenship, you will be able to work at any job that suits you. Thanks for explaining your circumstances, and have a great time in Cuyutlán. Welcome to Mexconnect!
