I just received a reply to an e-mail to Maya Lines. They have delayed starting service until November 2002 as they have decided to add new tonnage from the start of service instead of using their existing resources. According to the reply, they will post the information on their site at www.mayalines.com John

I followed the link the mayalines.com and got only a list of travel agencies. I searched through them all and found nothing useful ... and no references to mayalines at all. I want to get to anywhere in Mexico with my car. I want to plan the return separately. I'm traveling to find the place I want to live. I do not know how long that will take. Then, I will return home to make arrangements to relocate.

Thanks, Jim

Try the http://www.mexicoferry.com/...nglish&page=main link. The ferry between Tampa and the Yucatan Peninsula is not running. You can ship your car out of Miami I believe but there is no ferry service now.

There have been several (four if I remember correctly) ferry lines operating between the U.S. and Mexico over the past few years. They seem to run for a season, or maybe two, and then go out of business. I have a suspicion that it's not a very profitable enterprise. Based on that, you could have a good experience using the service during the first year but later on might find them out of business when you're ready to return. Caveat Emptor!
