Import Duty - Woodworking Machinery

I'm a US citizan living living part-time in Mexico. I come on a tourist
visa - I'm not an FM3/2 etc. I'd like to buy and bring in some (new
and used) woodworking machinery, for my own use, not business
use or resale, from Texas. Big stuff, like a tablesaw, which I will
transport in my own truck, which is registered in Mexico.

Can someone tell me what the import duty is on such equipment,
and what the procedures are for bringing it in?

Hello Randy,

I know nothing about the duty. It used to be about 30% of value on electrical items in the past.

But, we did import a table saw once. Some $400-$500 us dollars if I remember correctly. The aduana agent looked in the window and waved us right on. No inspection. No duty. Lucky? Probably so, but you might be also.

We also imported a portable electric generator plant (Some $350 us dollars)once upon a time. My kids stopped to declare it. They were asked what it was for and they told the aduanero that their father lliving in México lived in an area with no electricity. No duty.

My husband moved his entire woodworking shop -- lots of equipment -- in under his FM3. The most important thing was to have the serial numbers and list each electrical item. No duty.
