I want those of you who never read the forums at Chapala.Com to go over there for, perhaps, the most entertaining example of the pettiness and unpleasantness of human nature you will ever find anywhere . The thread there concerning my expulsion from that pedestrian forum has to do with the controversial nature of the relationship between your faithful correspondent and his detractors and supporters at Lake Chapala. Iīm not seeking anyoneīs support but suggesting that this is one of the most entertaining and instructive works of spontaneous dialogue you will ever find anywhere. It will not make you feel more optimistic about the human condition but then whatīs new in that regard.

If, after reading the discourse there, you have any questions, PM me. My sense of humor has no boundaries and you cannot hurt my feelings.

I would love to hear from you no matter your take on this humorous turn of events.

Now, now Bubba, I get the feeling you didn't get to read ALL of the messages over dere at chapala.com or your disgust with being banned has tainted your vision. 80% or better of the posts are folks saying they miss you and/or you weren't any worse than a lot of posters. 10% had little or nothing to do with Steve's OP and it would appear the balance of folks have very thin skins. Maybe it was the Mod that made the final decision, but I'd be willing to put down diez pesos that that it was a half dozen folks that made a plea. Don't know, don't care.

I attempted to do a bit of research to prove the point that rants were actually rather rare, language no more profane than a dozen others who are still on the board, and yet positive or negatives points were usually backed up with facts or quoted as "opinion."

I'm not here to sing your praises or nail you to a cross. I'm just here to read and learn. You are free to call me anything you like and I doubt it hasn't been said before. I'm just pissed that now I'll have to renew my membership!

Okay, readers want to know about your last trip. Quit whining and spill it!

P.S. Whether you like it or now I've already posted to chapala.com that your were here. There are a bunch of folks that ought to be making mexconnect.com a little richer in the near future.

I think you misunderstood me. I was not trying to criticize those who might have taken it upon themselves to criticize me. I was trying to point out the pettiness of human nature as exhibited by posts on that forum. I have no problem with being criticized or even vilified . I want people to see the incredible mean spiritedness of humans in general. Unfortunately, if I succesfully prove my point, I will feel no better about being what I am than I felt before. Nice prospect, no?

By the way de Gimp, you are one funny MF.

Claro,
I did misunderstand the post, but unfortunately the way I read it was "go over there and you'll see just how petty ALL of THEM can be." When we're writing (I'm included it the universal WE) we get in trouble when we're darn sure we've put down on (electronic) paper what was in our heads. Alas, even the best of writers falls into the trap of thinking that what he said was what he meant. I love that line!

I imagine you can still read what's going on over there. Unless they block an IP, which I'm pretty sure they can't, I believe the FORUM area is open to the public for reading, just not for posting. What many, including you (whom I believe were blessfully out of town for), will not be able to see is a rant that went on for what seemed like an eternity, that should have been pulled at the first post. The OP was a horrible vilification of everything and everyone. It wasn't as much an opinion,as it was than someone didn't make it to the bathroom in time. It covered the "no good Mexicans, no good Mexican Gov., no good Mexican Police, no good Mexican legal system, no good Lakeside, and no good Gringos." It made serious accusations that could not be corroborated and statements that had he still in Mexico probably could have gotten him thrown out. Instead of pulling the post and responding to the OP to put his comments/opinions into a more acceptable manner and then reposting it, the MOD allowed one post after another that served no purpose other than to vent spleens. My suggestion was to move such posts/threads them to a new "Area" called "Diarrhea." Alas, even I succumbed to a degree when I made a post questioning the persons sanity more than his opinions. It was the wrong thing to do and I'm not perfect.

In my original reply to this thread I was going to list the handles of the dozens of folks who were none too happy about the banning, but decided if they wanted to make the point then they could do if for themselves. I've grown to be very fond of many of the folks over at chapala.com, not only on line, but also in person. There are a lot of really good folks here as there are everywhere. There are also along of narrow-minded, thin-skinned... well, you get the point. Truthfully even they did good posts from time-to-time.

As for me, I'll probably being handing out a lot more over here and I hope more of the bunch over there do also. I'll still monitor and until I get banned maybe post a couple of things, but from what I've seen this site is better Moderated. No offense to chapala.com's Mod, he has his way of doing things and this site has its.

Next time it won't be "just another reply."

Since Bubba has called me a "troglodyte pukeface" on one of the fora, I'm a little less than sympathetic to his plight. Nevertheless, Bubba is a source of endless entertainment and amazement. He (and Mrs. Bubba) has provided me with a great deal of important information and his current postings about Southern Mexico are fascinating and enlightening.

I'm sure that troglodyte pukeface is just part of the "spontaneous dialogue" to which he refers.

"troglodyte pukeface" ???????

That couldnīt have been me, Dick. First of all, I happen to know that you live up the hill from my humble abode and not in a cave and, secondly, there is this fiend I call Senor Borracho Herradura Blanco who has somehow mastered the code to my computer and sneaks into my casa on occasion to deliberately humiliate me by posting obscene and outrageous comments because he knows I am in reality a pussy cat who has no stronger desire on earth than to be accepted by Ms. Mittie, my ninth grade counselor at Greenville High School in 1957 who assigned me to beginning Spanish because she thought I was too stupid to enroll in beginning Latin and thus doomed me to retiring in Mexico rather than Rome which has much better food if you know what I mean..

Com and so Iīve decided to elaborate on my earlier comments. First, I must thank those who came to my support often with very astute wit so they must not take offense. I am speaking of others.

Isnīt it amusing, folks, how cowardly vultures circle endlessly over even the wounded objects of their desire only to move in mercilessly to feast in beastly and repulsive fashion on the carrion once the deliciously and previously unattainable target is stone dead? It makes you wonder just who the "chosen few" really are.

I hereby accept this illustrious award and will wear it proudly where ever I go. The fact that it is invisible means not! BTW, I just got through with a PM with a Texan I know and made the point that everyone should have to put down where they'd spent the most significant part of their life in. This would go a long ways toward understanding many of the relevant, irrelevant, and irreverent things they say. A good example is dem dere Texicans. Having lived there well over 20 years I learned to not pay attention to 90% of what they say. Now Baman's, that's different, with them it's 98% (you figure out which end of the scale I talkin' bout.)

BTW, I'm sure glad a lot of folks don't have $30 to spare. Seriously, the quality of posts, not only on this sub-group, but on all the groups, is far superior to others I've encountered. Also the Mod(s) know how to keep the Spam off, a personal gripe of mine.

I donīt want to belabor this subject but I remember the lengthy thread on Chapala.Com that deGimp is speaking of where some one criticized Mexico and lakeside and created a whirlwind of responses and personal attacks that seemed to go on forever. While I was in San Cristobal at the time and not posting, I did read part of that thread at some internet cafe. It was pretty awful. I couldnīt read it all because I have ADD.

That other thread on Chapala. Com I commended to you following my public hanging over there created such dismay on the part of its OP that he requested the moderator lock the thread which he did but one can still read it by scrolling down. The OP had innocently inquired as to what happened to me (the answer being that I was in Chiapas and not posting) and the moderator told him " (Bubba) is no longer with us." prompting a friend to speculate that I was dead - a development which would clearly please some among members of that board. The OP was so appalled at the firstorm he created from an innocent inquiry that he apparenly became depressed since he is not a supporter of mine.

I want to thank all of the posters who voiced support for me over there - especially since, in the past, some of my posts outraged even me. Iīve mellowed a bit, am more personally interested in Southern Mexico now and no longer invite Sr. Borracho Herradura to edit my remarks since he tends to go overboard.

God willing, we will be moving to Chiapas in 2007 and spending our winters on the splendid Oaxaca coast and the wonderful city of Merida. In over three years of trying to find an alternative place to retire in Mexico to Peoria on the Sump, we have fallen in love with Southern Mexico which, in my mind covers Oaxaca, Chiapas, the Yucatan Peninsula and Veracruz state. After this spring we will be talking about this area a lot if still allowed so encourage your friends to join this forum which is a more thought provoking place to be than that other place. Lots of interesting posters hereabouts.

I hate to tell you this Jerry, but I still plan to live here for about four months a year and will be more than happy to share my impressions with you when I periodically return and observe the steady saturation of this once beautiul place with uncontrolled and excessive development and people who are insensitive to the culture and the environment. The kind of people who think they can simply form cliques with other foreigners to "honor" a place they only live around, not in because itīs the only place they can afford. There are actually a lot of nice people around here but they will increasingly be in the minority

By the way, along the Alabama Gulf Coast we always told northern transplants that I-65 ran north and south and they could use it for free if they couldnīt stand the heat or bugs. Unfortunately, they wouldn`t leave and, over the last 30 years, defiled a once charming coast with their tacky high rise condos, golf courses and gated communities, I have seen this over and over again not only on the Alabama coast but Coastal California in many places from San Diego to Sonoma Counties.

If you must know, I have to come back here several times a year for my Super Lake shopping fix and that sort of thing so, see you around

Bubba, give it a rest. We love you dearly, but some of us are quite happy here in whatever you want to call it - Ajijic. Personally, I call it Mexico light. I like Mexico a lot and have enjoyed traveling throughout the country, have enjoyed getting to know a number of Mexicans, and share your concern about the overbuilding and over use of the infrastructure.

Nevertheless, it is my home, and I don't particularly enjoy reading your constant complaining about it. Constructive criticism is good. Warnings to those considering moving here are good. Even bitching to try to discourage others from coming here can be good. Just bitching to see yourself on the internet would seem to be a real waste of time. Perhaps you should go back to the tequila. Your ranting is way to rational.

Incidentally, the same discussion you referred to above drove me from Chapala.com also. However I went voluntarily.

Bubba, we thought about telling the people who did not like Florida to go back to where they came from but did not. They were a pain but they did help provide jobs and raise the standard of living for the locals just like they did in Alabama and are doing here. When we first came here we had a nice gringo lady tell us that she hoped we enjoyed our visit but "do not move here as we have enough people here now". A lot of people are that way. They have found a place they like and do not want anybody else moving in. Where I came from one of the people that complained the most about my trying to bring in industry/jobs had over 20,000 acres and 5,000 cows. There were over 200 young people graduating every year from high school and not many if any jobs available. He said industry would raise his labor costs. He had 3 full time employees.

P.S. I am not rich like you but I think we can afford to live most anywhere we want but while this area is not perfect WE LIKE IT HERE.

OK, Dlyman & Jerry:

I think we can all agree that an influx of people with money to spend and developers providing residential developments to provide housing are both good and bad trends. As is true of everything in life, nothing is simple. The fisherman once living in the modest cottage on the beach in Destin or Gulf Shores was pushed off his beach by the developers and now has a sorry shack in the piney woods from which he commutes to the resort on the beach where the developer provides him a better living as a bartender than he ever made as a fisherman even though he can no longer afford to live in his native Destin. Life can be complicated.

I actually like many things about this area as well and thatīs the real reason weīll continue to spend part of the year here.

Two things, however. The fact that we were able to buy a second home does not mean we are rich, Jerry. Chiapas is much cheaper than here and when we bought in Ajijic it was much cheaper than it is now - much cheaper as I think you know. And, Dlyman, you have demonstrated excellent taste in voluntarily shunning those unpleasant postings down the street. I clearly misjudged you a while back. The whole purpose of this thread was to call attention to some loathsome posts on another forum by a few spineless opportunists who attacked me personally as soon as they discovered I couldnīt respond to their cowardly attacks. I havenīt posted much about Ajijic in a while before this because I have chosen Chiapas as a place we like to live. To each his own. Nobodyīs right and nobodyīs wrong.

I agree with Pete Johanson that what Ajijic really needs is a Burger King and I, like he, am not kidding about that. I expect to see one here in 2007. Another reason to periodically return.

Now, Iīll give it a rest.

I could not agree more, what I need is a sack of 30 Krystal Sliders. That plus Johnny Carson got me through the night.
