I didn't see anyone respond to the originators request for info on Satellite so I guess I just stick my 2 centavos in. Satellite has never been a viable solution to anyone but the very wealthy and/or someone who lived where wideband of any sort was not available. The best info is on newsgroups, blogs, and URL's dealing specifically with this issue. Those are the people who are living with it. On a personal note; I investigated satellite when the wife and I were considering being on the road quite a bit and away from wideband sources. The cost of the equipment was staggering and the rates for usage were based upon Gb download and also much higher than the highest ground based broadband. On top of that we found no one (at the time) that would guarantee that it word work with someone running around in an RV and resetting things up every couple of days/weeks. I have reason to believe this has changed and if you pockets are deep enough one can solve the mobility issue. DSL/ADSL/Wireless Broadband There are a thousand places to check download/upload speeds on the net and many programs that will automate the process for you (IMHO a waste of money). Your results are relative to the point you are starting at and going to. When I check, which is usally only when I suspect a problem, I use severs in Washington State, Illinois, Southern Calif., Dallas, and somewhere in the Southeast. It usually only takes 10 min. to do all of them. When everything is going well <hmm, how often is that?> one should expect about 80%-85% of published speed here in Lakeside. 800/80 is darn typical of a good day here using the 1024/128 TelMex. I would be curious to know what speeds LagunaNet and MexicoConnect Wireless customers are getting. I just experienced dial up speeds with a clients computer using LagunaNet and the "Connect Speed" was 28.8 (OhMahGawd) and that personally would drive me nutz. I didn't measure throughput, but for dial up it didn't seem to bad. Wireless users respond, por favor? deGimp I reject your reality and insert my own!
