Los Altos de Jalisco Visit

As a result of a few things I have heard about Los Altos de Jalisco I would like to have a look during an upcoming visit to Guadalajara. As with every trip to Mexico, I am looking around with the idea of finding a place to settle down.

Can anyone help me define what the Los Altos region is defined by, and what towns there would be best to visit over the course of a few days? Is transportaion from the old or new bus terminal in Guadalajara easy? Anyone have noteworthy experiences to share - good or bad - in towns of that area?

Main towns are Tepatitlán, San Juan de los Lagos, Lagos de Moreno.
Lots of buses from new bus station.
Several ex-pats have settled in Lagos de Moreno, which is a very attractive large town (small city).

Jalostotitlán is another very pleasant, smaller town in Los Altos. It's famous for furniture, boxes, and other items made of beautiful inlaid wood.
