¡Hola, amigos costeños!
Just to let you know that the cultural scene in Xalapa is not only music, theater, medical, government, etc., this next December 8, 9 and 10 will be the first International Bamboo Congress(Primer Congreso Internacional del Bambú) at the Hotel Xalapa. There will be speakers from Columbia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, México and the United States. Many of the presentations will not only be about the botanical and cultivation aspects of bamboo, but also about its practical uses and commercialization.
There are more than 450 native bamboos in the Américas, with over 35 in México. The Jardin Botanico Francisco Javier Clavijero in Xalapa just inaugurated the first living collection of 29 bamboos from México, 5 of which are from Veracruz state and nearly extinct.
Gib Cooper of BOTA(Bamboos of the Americas) is here in Xalapa right now doing research on native American bamboos, and BOTA has donated US$25,000 for the collection and investigation.
Please let me know if you are interested in attending the congress.
¡Hasta pronto, amigos!
