Having a Myomectomy in Mexico

| Private Reply
Traveling to Mexico to have an abdominal myomectomy, and I am wondering if someone could provide some guidance in how to find a good hospital and doctors who do this kind of surgery.
Willing to travel to San Miguel de Allende, Queretaro, or Oaxaca.

I used the search button but did not find anything regarding this topic. There got to be someone who has had it, or has a sister/girlfried, or a wife who has had this kind of surgery?
I emailed a couple of hospitals but none replied.
If anybody has referrals, that will be great.
Thanks so much for your help

I would suggest that you consider Guadalajara, as there are many excellent physicians and first class private hospitals. Your first step will be to find a gynocologic surgeon. Since there are many expats in the Chapala area, south of Guadalajara, you might expect many from that area to respond to your query with more specific recommendations, or you might wish to make contact with Quality Care/Medicos Especialistas at Lake Chapala, as they are an excellent group of specialists from Guadalajara. All are bilingual and will recommend the hospital best for your needs.

As rvgringo mentions, your first step would be to locate a gynecologist.

My ex had this surgery here in the states for uterine fibroids - the incision is made through the abdomen.

Maybe do some reference checks of these:

Also, Mexperience suggests contacting the Consulate in the city you will be visiting, since they usually keep a list of local doctors at hand:

Good Luck

Thanks for the quick reply, Rvgringo.
I was thinking about Guadalajara but with the recent news about increase in crime in general, I was a bit concerned but maybe is not as bad?

I forgot to mention that language is not a problem as speak Spanish.

My other query is whether there is a medical board in each state in which one can search the doctor's expetise...etc.? Or, is there a national medical board where one can search a doctor's licence?
Thanks for the suggestions--much appreciated.

Thanks much, Lilmsmaggie.
Good links. Looks like most specialists are located in Guadalajara so I should definitely consider GL.

Great info. I had not considered contacting the local consulate upon arrival.

I have done most of the prelim work (blood tests/MRI...etc). I was scheduled for surgery here in the US, but then ran into problems with my health insurance :(

If anybody has personal referrals, please DM/inbox me.

Have faith. Guadalajara is very safe and is a beautiful city to visit. There are moderately priced and even economical hotels right in centro historico, so relax and enjoy.
Do contact the folks I recommended in another reply; you won‘t do any better than to consult with them. As a male, I have not used their OB/GYN but have used their cardiologist and gastroenterologic surgeon multiple times.

A good place to get referrals from former patients would be the local forums: either or Inside Lakeside, since these people would be living in the large expat communities near Guadalajara whose surgical care would normally happen in the fine Guadalajara hospitals. The major private hospitals there are Puerto de Hierro, San Javier and del Carmen, and all come highly recommended. I had eye surgery at de Hierro and was very impressed with the facility. You can also post your query right here on the Jalisco forum, which covers those areas.

Airport access is very good, since there is a major airport in Guadalajara and many nice hotels in the area. Check Trip Advisor.
