Crossing in a car with and FM3

|
I will be driving my car back to Mexico's interior (Queretaro) hopefully this Wednesday, but have run into serious problems. I have an FM3 student visa and am aware that this frees me from the bond/credit card requirement, however although I own my vehicle outright, I do not have the pink slip. (It is somewhere amist the DMV bureacracy nightmare and will be sent to my mother's house in four to six weeks.) From what I have read in the other forums, sometimes they do not ask for the title, and sometimes they do. Do I need the title with an FM3? If they ask for it and I do not have it, will I be denied entry? Is there a border crossing that would be more likely to not ask for it? Is there anything else I can get in place of the title? Please help! I start school on the seventh and two other students are depending on me to get back! TRISA

Do you still have the original paper work that you got when you bought the car? The bill of sale will do just fine in place of the title (pink slip). If you don't have the bill of sale, the dealer may still have his copy. Sometimes the registration papers alone will get you through; it depends on who you get at the desk -- it does seem to vary even at the same office. Do you speak enough Spanish to plead your case?
I am not aware that a student FM-3 relieves you of the need for a credit card/bond. Are you sure about that?
