Re: [donald] Condition of Laguna de Chapala

hi donald, as you said you're new here-this negativity about the lake has been going on for some time.

as to what you take as "facts"-these could be debated ad infinitum by various and sundry and never necessarilly be proven "beyond a resonable doubt"

juraj1-simply stated that he and his family and many other people enjoy the lake and make a living from the lake contrary to the"facts" which i suspect are based more on unfounded "opinion".

in my posts i was simply outlining "my" observations on the lake and "opinions" i garnered from local mexicans and gringos.

i guess it's unfortunate to some that these were positive-why positivity would upset some people enough to harangue me is beyond my ken.

i hope we ALL didn't confuse the original poster.

by the way donald is it your "opinion" that my "opinions" and "observations"are invalid because i don't necessarily agree with the people you have chosen to agree with?

I just got through preparing some charales for my husband. They are about 1 - 1 1/2 inches long, they look like minnows and they are usually dried. This is also what they get from the Lago de Cuitzeo. We brought some home. You eat them bones, head, and all. We just fried them in oil with chile negro, then put them in some beaten eggs and then fried the egg. Good if you like fish.

The only problem with doing this is that many of the families that support themselves by fishing and selling charales may be out of jobs and in that case they may not be very happy about all the help they are getting from the gabachos at lakeside that want to save their lake.

With all due respect Juraj1, you living here permanently and a lot of us just as sometimes occasional visitors I do want to say this much about swimming in any water. Where most of the visitors come from if there is even a weed coming near the surface or is touching their bodies while in the water they will avoid the water. As well if there is mud to wade through before getting into swimming depth it is a likewise situation. The color of the water in addition to that is definitely not inviting to go for a swim. Those are facts which you can ascertain from anyone from up north.

Maybe if the various Mexican states could get their act together to do something about the condition of Lake Chapala then it may/will once again be the lake it was 10 or so years ago. That would be absolutely wonderful!

not "anyone" rm -i'm an el norte and i have previously expressed that my faithful dog howdy and i will be swimming in the slough and i hope i get an invite from juraj1 and his family to join them.

sounds like they know how to amuse themselves quite nicely when the opportunity arises-my only concern-but its a minor one is that a whole lot of charals are peeing in it.

i'll simply rinse out my mouth with some anejo regional black label when i come back to shore.

howdy will be ok because she's been known to take a meal from the kitty litter and survived.

There is a Chinese saying that goes something like this:

"There was a frog that lived in the bottom of a well
Do not bother to explain to it the immenseness of the sky
Because it had never seen the sky"

I believed that what I cannot see will not harm me. I looked out to the lake everyday and I saw plenty of water. I did not see smoke coming out of the water. Nor do I see bodies of dead animal or fish floating on the water. I can, therefore, logically conclude that the lake is fine.

It was part consideration of all other avenues of support and part tongue in cheek with which I recommended the Sierra club, and especially Peta. Environmentalists often tend to wish to save the forest but kill the trees. I wouldn't ever seriously recommend a species of animal be saved at the expense of people. ONce one species is eliminated, others tend to populate and economies rise from it.

why don't you join or run for president juraj1, from what you've said so far i think you could bring some clarity to the minds all those doom and gloom hysterical gringos that are involved now.

i can hardly wait to sit down with you over a plate of charals and beer in the mercado and admire the scenery with you.

i'm just wondering did you see my wife and i there and her giving me the elbow whenever i admired the "scenery" too much?

Pedro I think "juraj1" is a "Wife" who has a "Husband"

From Pedro?

"juraj1-simply stated that he and his family and many other people enjoy the lake and make a living from the lake contrary to the"facts" which i suspect are based more on unfounded "opinion".

From juraj1?

"No Sir, It doesnt come from Lake Chapala, It camos from the undergraund sources that they have, you can visit a plant whenever you want, My husband used to work on that Thats why Im telling you this Lake Chapala is so polluted that the water even with the purification procces will not pass the quality tests for drinking water."

Jajajaja!!!

Donīt worry about that Pedro... I can still sit in the mercado and have "charales con chile y limon", and a "estrella" beer with you.. no problem and I will love to... (Ok Iīll bring my husband and you bring your wife...)

About the presidency that you asked me about no thanks, I donīt really have time.. I work and I take care of my house, besides, I donīt like those kind of politics.

The post wich Arbor wrotte about was when they were asking about drinking water, the lake will never be used to get potable water out of it, but that doesnīt have anything to do with the swiming water, is just like in the sea... you donīt drink the water do you???

To Jeannie,

Good pictures, and the 2002 picture is exactly as we remember it in October 1999 and in August 2000. In other words, if you stand on the pier, the lake is visible in the distance.......

I remember a post from Judy King about a year ago saying that the local yatch club had something like 26 boats at the pier being used by the members. The next day a resident posted a set of pictures showing that the pier was overgrown with weeds and there was no water within hundreds of feet of the end. I thought that pretty much ended Ms King's credibility as far as I was concerned.

The pictures are accurate. HOWEVER, I would encourage anyone to visit for themselves and take their own pictures. Also, walk out to the edge of the water with a glass and drink a glass of water from it. Probably won't hurt you..... probably not....... probably....

Perhaps "Pedro" can post some pictures of his visit. I'd like to see the nice beaches he is talking about......

Mabel

Re: [RM] Sure is different

RM
Lake Chapala will never be clear and blue as Lake Tahoe, even if there were no cities around it, or along the river that feeds it. It will forever be a plateau, mountain enclosed body of water, in which suspended particles (most of them of volcanic origin) are so minute and in such amounts in comparison to the oxygen content, that they remain suspended, all this accentuated by natural algae (among other factors) that also plays a role in the life of the “laguna ”. Lake Chapala is fed and shaped by very different water dynamics, and in very different conditions than say Lake Ontario. A body of water is not polluted based mainly on its muddy, dirty appearance. Having said that, you have not proven to this forum that you are capable of informative (therefore informed), responsible statements, as opposed to arrogant hasty generalizations.
On that same line, I do not believe that all visitors (including myself) will be as shallow to miss the differences between Lake Chapala and some thousand miles away ecosystem.

Facts? It seems rather you are taking a posture backing Jennie up, to validate your disliking of Pedro. Your approach is quite juvenile. After all, you are the one setting “rules of discussion” and with them, regard Pedro’s information as of no value. I find his information very cheerful and valuable.
