It looks like I was mistaken when I wrote that the collection was the result of his wife's artistic enthusiasms, though the museum is named for her. According to this article written shortly after it opened, both Slim and his wife acquired the pieces in the museum or paid someone or ones to acquire them. The reviewer doesn't think much of the collection or the museum architecture, which was designed, by the way, by his son-in-law, another fine example of Mexican nepotism!

Here's another review which focuses on the general weakness of the collection (though some exceptions are mentioned like Spanish and Mexican Colonial paintings) and how poorly it is displayed, though no mention is made of the extensive coin collection that so bored citlali.
